After several preliminary meetings, the Club of the Historical Buttafuoco was founded, by the well of eleven young viticulturist.
The intention of the above people is to work together in the search for the historical charateristics, the selection of the best vineyards, the controlled production and the promotion of the wine Buttafuoco.
In observance the Club members' will, the historical Buttafuoco wine will be presented to the public only 36 months after the grape harvest.
Each vineyard will personalize its own Buttafuoco with particular charateristics allowing the Club to present a list of unique wines. Only the Historical Buttafuoco can be presented in the typical old bottle of the Oltrepò on which the trade-mark of the sailing ship is shown.

The historical area of Buttafuoco production, thanks to its geografical position, is rich in tradition, heritage of various cultures that, during the centuries, alternated here. In the old days the northern part of this area, named "the Stradella gorge" for the strategic position between th eriver Po and the Pennines, was the only passage for the peoples migrating from north to south and vice-versa.
The viticulture experience, certainly know to the Cellelati and the Cierdiciati, the Ligurian tribes that inhabitated these places, was improved by the knowledge of the people that passed here: first of all the Chartaginians, who were on good terms with the Ligurians, having formed alliance with some of them; than the Romans who in 223 B.C. established an outpost in Casteggio.
